An unexpected injury knocked the doors of Jonny Bairstow, an English wicketkeeper-batsman when he was facing Arjun Tendulkar during the nets session ahead of England first test match Test against South Africa at Lords.
The accurately bowled yorker from Tendulkar hit his feet, and the latter had to leave the ground. It was the very first bowl of Tendulkar to Bairstow, and the latter seemed to have no answer for it. Other members of the full strengthed English squad for the upcoming test series were also present at the ground during the incident.
The 17-year old, Arjun Tendulkar has been often seen bowling to English players in nets whenever he is in England.
“Jonny Bairstow suffered an unexpected injury scare ahead of the first Test against South Africa at Lord’s. The 27-year-old pinned on the foot by a yorker from the teenage son of Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. Bairstow hobbled out of the nets after facing only one delivery from the 17-year-old Arjun Tendulkar,” a report on “Daily Mail” read.
Unlike his father and the legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun is more recognized for his bowling. He is a left-armed seam bowler. Junior Tendulkar has also represented Mumbai in under 14 and under 16 tournaments. Former Pakistani speedster and bowling legend Wasim Akram has also admired Jr. Tendulkar’s bowling skills.
Jonny Bairstow got hit on his left leg, and it was put in a compression unit to ease the pain. However, the good news for England is that Bairstow’s injury is not severe enough to miss the inaugural test match of the series.
Led by Joe Root England locks horns with South Africa for a four-match Test series that begins on Thursday. Before this England has won the only t-20 and a three-match ODI series 2-1. England will be looking to start off the series on a positive note by winning the first test.
