For all those who give value to the friendship made through social networking site, this story is just a warning. Something worse can happen to you too! A Jaipuri girl’s romantic encounter with a Delhi youth on Facebook took an unexpected turn when the girl reached to meet the guy at his home place, Delhi. He kidnapped and locked her up in a hotel room.
The 22-year-old promised the girl that he will marry her. She took his words seriously and left her home without informing her family. She reached Delhi on March 14 to marry this guy. Throughout the journey, she was in constant touch with the guy through Facebook and Whatsapp.
When the girl’s family came to know about her, they immediately filed a missing report at Jaipur police station. On March 16, a team of Rajasthan Police sought help from their Delhi counterparts to trace her. An intensive search operation was conducted in Gari, Mahipalpur and Vasant Kunj and the accused Imran was finally arrested from Mahipalpur.
The girl was rescued by the crime branch from Mahipalpur. Police said the youth was planning to sell her to traffickers. “Imran had a Facebook account with a fake name and sent a friend request to the victim. A few months after she accepted his friend request, he asked the girl to come to Delhi to meet him. He also promised that his family would like to meet her so that they could make their relationship official,” said G Ram Gopal Naik, DCP (crime).
Police are still probing if she was sexually assaulted or not. During the inquiry, it was revealed that she was forced to stay in a rented house at Mahipalpur.”When the victim came to know the real nature of Imraan, she resisted and refused to live with him. But she was beaten up and her mobile phone was snatched by Imraan,” said the officer.
This is a bitter lesson to everyone that it is unwise to blindly fall for what is shown on Facebook and other social media. One has to be careful and vigilant at all times to avoid putting oneself in life-threatening circumstances. Better beware!
