SC restrained states banning Padmaavat release:
Padmaavat(formerly Padmavati), directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of those Bollywood movies that has created noise in the nation. It portrays the historical saga of 13th century battle between Maharaja Ratan Singh of Mewar with Sultan Alauddin Khilji of Delhi.
These states (Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat) sent their pleas to the SC for banning the film release. They claimed that it hurts the sentiments of the Indian history. According to The Karni Sena, Bhansali had distorted history in making the film. They are upset over the depiction of Padmini, especially a romantic dream scene between the queen and the Mughal emperor.
Strongly tells states to abide by the order:
Last week the top court dismissed all the notifications passed by Rajasthan and MP governments against Padmaavat. The SC stated that their arguments are implicit and authorities are unable to ensure any law and order. The bench also dismissed the applications filed by Shree Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena to screen the film nationally. Previously, the Karni Sena threatened Bhansali and accused the lead actress. Even they offered Rs 50 million to anyone who”behead” him and chop off her nose. Earlier they attacked and vandalized the set of the film in Rajasthan. Last Tuesday the SC refused to modify its order. The Chief justice stated that people must understand their orders and they must abide by it. Also ‘if the situation arises’ these states have the liberty to approach them again.
The apex court stated their duty includes providing police protection to persons involved, its exhibition and the audience. This is to maintain law and order, under constitutional obligation. Also, the censor board incorporated five changes earlier this month and finally set it to the silver screen.
The controversial film Padmaavat, stars Deepika Padukone as legendary Rajput queen Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as royal Maharaja Ratan Singh. Ranveer Singh as ferocious Muslim emperor Alauddin Khilji is rising the mercury. It is released on January 25 in Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil.
