While the whole country is busy preparing for the second International Yoga Day (IYD), Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announces that the Bihar Government won’t participate in IYD. He says, “I am not against yoga day but I don’t like publicity stunts like this. I also do yoga but have never advertised it“.

International Yoga Day is celebrated annually on 21st June, the longest day of Northern Hemisphere (Summer Solstice), as proposed by PM Narendra Modi, since it’s inception in 2015. Modi government along with AYUSH ministry is working tirelessly to make the program a grand success. This year, Narendra Modi is expected to take part in Yoga Day function in Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow.

While Union government’s 74 ministers would celebrate Yoga Day in 74 cities across the country, quite ridiculously, Bihar government chooses to celebrate World Music Day on June 21.

Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal (United)  was an important ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for almost two decades. But they are known to share political rivalry from the time Modi took the reigns of his party as the CM candidate and JD(U) decided to break free of the NDA alliance,  ahead of the 2014 Lol Sabha polls.

Earlier, Nitish had imposed a ban on liquor sale in Bihar. He says, “Yoga is a natural treatment process but liquor addicts cannot perform it. Yoga would be irrelevant unless a ban is imposed on sale of liquor across the country”.

Report says, no special events will be held in the state and Bihar government will stick to its traditional celebrations of World Music Day, on June 21.
