Presently, team, India is playing a series of 5-One day internationals and a single t-20 match against West Indies away from home.
In a recently concluded match, It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni who drove the team home by scoring 78 of 79 balls.
When MS played last time in West Indies, It was again him who emerged as the hero of the final match of the tri-series being played between India, West Indies, and Srilanka.
Here is rewinding the clock back to 2013.
CELKON MOBILE CUP 2013
Celkon Mobile Cup was a tri-nation series with the likes of India, Sri Lanka and West Indies fighting for the cup. After winning 2 matches each, India and Sri-Lanka qualified for the final match at Port Of Spain. MS Dhoni who had been ruled out of the series due to injured hamstring surprisingly announced his comeback and lead the team. It was Virat Kohli who had led the team in his absence for past matches of the series.
India after winning the toss put Sri-Lanka to bat first and the good bowling efforts of bowlers (which included 4 wickets of Ravindra Jadeja) bowled the opposition out for 201 in 48.5 overs.
India, on the other hand, did not have a very good start either.
Opener Shikhar Dhawan got out for 16 runs off 38 balls. The middle order did not click and wickets went down in a hurry. Rohit Sharma showed some character with his 58 off 146 balls but after his wicket, the lower middle order vanished like an ice cube in the fire.
But it was the captain who stood tall at the other end. MS was scoring with a strike rate of slightly over 60 before Vinay Kumar got out and India was 9 down for 182 in the second delivery of the 47th over.
With India requiring 20 off 22 balls with one wicket in hand, Ishant Sharma made an entry to the pitch. India looked on the verge of defeat. Heads had begun going down in the dressing room. At the other end though there was no effect
At the other end, though there was no effect, Captain cool was at his tactical best and dragged the game to the last over. Ishant Sharma showed resilience for his 2 of 17 balls and survived the bowling of Mathews and Malinga.
Last over of the match, With 16 requiring to win, It was Mahendra Singh Dhoni on strike. Nails were been bitten in the stadium, prayers being made.
49.1 ERANGA TO DHONI:
“Dot Ball, It’s big ball. 15 off 5 required. That was dangerous, It was on a length slightly outside off stump. He had gone wide for this one, asking Dhoni to fetch it.”
49.2 ERANGA TO DHONI:
“That is big, within the reach of Dhoni. 9 required off 4. The length was the same as of the previous ball but this time much closer to Dhoni.”
49.3 ERANGA TO DHONI:
“9 of 4, Pressure on Eranga. FOUR!!!..5 required off 3. India consents hope. And why not? 5 off 3 balls with Mahendra Singh Dhoni, you have to go with India.”
“Sweeper goes much squarer now, More often you see batsman getting deep for yorkers, but Dhoni is not doing that.”
49.4 ERANGA TO DHONI:
6!!! “Magnificent!!!!….Magnificent Mahendra..He is unbelievable in so many ways. He has taken India to victory by just one wicket.”
And that was it. India had won the Celkon Mobile cup and it was again the skipper who came to the rescue in the final.
